Role of Curriculum in moral education of child

Curriculum design is a specialized aspect of curriculum development dealing with the preparation of curriculum plans and materials for use potentially by any students or teachers of a given description. In most studies on teaching strategies for curriculum-oriented moral education we found the following elements: problem-based learning, working in groups, discussions, and using subject topics incorporating moral issues, dilemmas and values. Frequently, a problem-based instructional design is chosen. What has been learnt must be meaningful in the context of students‘ personal objectives and they must be able to connect the learning content with their prior knowledge. Many morals and values education curricula have tended to change by accretion with units of the curriculum centered around specific values or principles. In a situation where there is obviously an overloading of the curriculum in schools, teachers find themselves constantly trying to keep up with new knowledge or the reinterpretation of old ones, and the even more difficult situation of trying to find connections between seemingly separate and specialised bits and pieces of knowledge. The design of the curriculum reflects the concepts outlined in the conceptual framework and implications for the roles of schools, families, NGOs, and teachers. It also attempts to respond to the concerns about the degree of effectiveness of traditional approaches to the teaching of morals and values. To do this effectively, there is a deliberate shift away in this document away from the traditional approaches to the organisation of the curriculum.

Moral Value & Social Maturity

Adolescences are an impressionable age or role models replicating stage, they take them from all areas that are close at hand in their society, whether mass media, parents and family or their teachers. An individual’s personal and social values and skills is that complex of knowledge, values, attitudes and abilities which contribute to the development of a sound moral character, as a sense of community and competence is responding to the personal, social and cultural aspects of life. This social maturity scale was used with a view to achieve two practical goals. The first was to attain a theoretical backdrop, which has the prospect of ensuring an operational concept of social maturity with its social and individual relevance. The second and the more pragmatic goal have been to evolve a precise and dependable measure of social maturity applicable to the normal school/college children. This period of adolescence requires proper guidance and counseling by parents and teachers for the adequate adjustment of children in class room environment and also in the society.

"Maturity is learning to walk away from people and situations that threaten your peace of mind, self respect, values, moral or self worth".

Moral Values & Body Language

The psychologist’s concept of moral behavior is much like the layman’s and psycho analyst’s concept of conscience or moral character. The word ‘Moral’ is derived from the Latin word ‘Mos’ that means customs, practice or rule, away of accomplishing things.
In Indian culture, we respect our elders as a custom by bow down and touching feet for blessing at special occasions and consider elders as superior, never speak to them in high tone, all these depends on individual moral values without considering any gender difference. This was followed from one generation to another in the form of essential learning while families and communities should continue to take responsibilities for the maintenance of certain societal and cultural values including moral values, this does not exempt schools / colleges from their responsibilities in this area. Hence moral values play an important role in carving personality development of the adolescent.

Moral Values and Teacher

Moral values are inter-woven in all aspects of teaching, in the curriculum, in the school culture, and as moral examples in teachers' behaviour. Working with values is an essential part of teaching. Educating students to become teachers requires the teachers to learn how values are embedded in education; how they themselves, as reflective practitioners, can consciously create moral-based practices in education; and what different philosophical, pedagogical, and political theories and religious and cultural traditions say about moral development and the role of education. We distinguish the following perspectives on moral values in teacher education: value transfer, reflective practitioner, moral sensitivity, participation and dialog, and moral politics.
Adding value to development implies that human development is seen not as a natural biological process, but as a process of giving meaning to the world. It is a process of growing into cultural practices and positioning oneself by articulating what is valuable, it is a personal reconstruction of cultural practices and narratives.

Moral value and parents

Respect, kindness, honesty, courage, perseverance, self-discipline, compassion, generosity, dependability. Most parents want to instill these kinds of values in their children. Doing so will protect them from potentially negative societal influences and lay the foundation for them to become good citizens. We’re not fulfilling our responsibilities as parents if we don’t try to instill solid morals in our children. Of course, this is often easier said than done. Teaching values takes time a scarce commodity for many parents today. “Our increasingly competitive economy is creating an environment where Mom and Dad are spending longer hours at work and fewer hours with their children,”

As a result, outside influences like peer pressure and the entertainment industry through the Internet, television, movies, video games and music are having a greater effect on children, shaping their perspectives more than ever before.

Importance of Grandparents to Their Grandchildren

Grandparents play very important role in the lives of their grandchildren, though it is often indirect. They are often seen as helping hands to their parents in bringing them up.

Grandparents are often seen as "stress buffers," family "watchdogs," "roots," "arbitrators," and "supporters”. The children share unique relationships with them which gives them support both emotionally and mentally. Grandparents can be a major support during family disruptions.

Sometimes they're playmates for their grandchildren. They're very often role models and mentors for younger generations. They are also historians -- teach values, instilling ethnic heritage, and passing on family traditions. Increasing numbers of grandparents care for their grandchildren during the day or have legal full custody of their grandchildren, making them surrogate parents. These grandparents have a particularly strong influence.

Importance of Moral Values in Student Life

Moral Values are the worthy ideals or principles that one follows to distinguish the right from the wrong. These ideals or virtues are considered worthy in building up the character of an individual. Moral Value refers to the good virtues such as honesty, integrity, truthfulness, compassion, helpfulness, love, respectfulness, hard-work, etc. Students are the future of India. The future of our country depends upon the moral values imparted to them during their student life. Moral lessons should be properly implemented among students in school and colleges. Moral values are taught by the parents & teachers in student life by telling what is right, good, bad or wrong for them or in front of the society. A person who sticks to his moral values is said to bear a good character. There are two schools of thoughts when it comes to moral values. As per one, a person must have good moral values even at the cost of his/ her happiness. On the other hand as per the other one a person must not be too strict with oneself and that moral values may become a cause of stress. The youth these days is more inclined towards seeking happiness rather than valuing moral values. This may be attributed to the growing influence of the western culture.
